Witcher 3 Remastered Is Out Now: Release Date & Download — quick answer

Witcher 3 Remastered released on September 29, 2026 and is available now. CDPR confirms a free upgrade with Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine for owners on the supported PC stores, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2. Preload was a pre-release question; use your owning account’s current library or store download instead of waiting for an unlock countdown.

What is known now

Each section keeps its scope narrow so a high-level announcement is not mistaken for a complete launch specification.

Official release: September 29, 2026

CDPR’s launch announcement confirms availability, replacing the earlier ‘coming September 29’ status. This is the 2026 Remastered release, distinct from the 2022 Next-Gen Update. Official launch announcement

Supported launch platforms

CDPR names GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, Battle.net, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. Availability is tied to the supported version and owning account; a different platform’s entitlement should not be assumed.

Preload record: September 28, 2026

Our pre-launch check did not establish a universal per-store preload timetable or regional unlock time. Nintendo described a separate Switch 2 download. These are historical observations, not a reason to wait now or proof of today’s download size.

Post-launch patch check

CDPR released Patch 5.01 on October 8 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, then began the Switch 2 5.01 rollout in most regions on October 19. Japanese availability remains pending certification. The October 1 hotfixes remain historical records on the status page.

Action guide

What to do next

  1. Step 1

Open the account that owns the game

Check the game’s library or store entry and its available upgrade/download action. The original release announcement and a retailer countdown are historical context, not the current install screen.

  2. Step 2

Match the version to your platform

Use the current store listing for your supported platform. On Switch 2, the previously documented separate download has its own Home-menu entry; an older Switch installation is not evidence that the Switch 2 version is installed.

  3. Step 3

If the download or upgrade does not appear

Confirm the owning account, supported platform and store region, then inspect the download queue and any exact error. Take that information to the relevant platform or CDPR support. A missing button alone does not prove a global outage or require buying another copy.

  4. Step 4

Check the installed patch after downloading

Record your platform and installed version, compare with the platform-specific announcements on our status page, and distinguish a local launch error from a store download or account problem.

Common mistakes

Avoid these wrong assumptions

Waiting for September 29 after release

The launch is confirmed. An old ‘coming soon’ article or countdown is no longer the current availability answer.

Treating a preload claim as today’s install size

An older downloaded file or another store’s size does not establish the space required for your current platform and patch.

Calling this the 2022 update

The 2026 Remastered release is a distinct product update with newly announced changes.

FAQ

Common questions

When did Witcher 3 Remastered release?

September 29, 2026. CD PROJEKT RED’s dated launch post confirms it is available now.

Do I still need to preload Witcher 3 Remastered?

No launch countdown remains to wait for. Check the current download or upgrade entry in the library of the account that owns the game. The September 28 preload check remains a historical record, not a current download schedule.

Is Remastered a free upgrade?

CDPR’s launch post describes a free upgrade for owners on the supported platforms and includes Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. Check the owning account and platform before assuming a different store’s entitlement.

Is the 2026 release the same as the 2022 Next-Gen Update?

No. This release-date page covers the distinct September 29, 2026 Remastered update.

How current is this page?

The published facts were checked October 20, 2026. Time-sensitive details are revisited when CD PROJEKT RED or a first-party platform publishes an update.

Does this page reuse old Witcher 3 facts as Remastered facts?

No. Legacy and 2022 material may appear only as labelled context; missing 2026 details remain explicitly unpublished.
